"Reclaiming the self means re-membering and embracing the texture and fabric of your inner being — then unapologetically wearing it for the world to see."

THE ARTIST | Jade DesHotel

In a world of filters, divisiveness, and an ever-growing lack of authentic human connection, we often hide. We live for others. We show up as versions of ourselves we think others will like - polished, subdued, small, distracted... But we are so much more than that.

My work asks: "What if we showed up fully, with presence? What if we let others see our weird and wacky, our soft and sensitive, our fire and passion? What if we rose above the demands of society and chose to live true to ourselves - unapologetically?"

I paint portraiture with a purpose. Each figure stands boldly among rich texture of collage, fabric, and linework - serving as invitations for connection, soul, and story. They aren't decoration; they're alive.

These aren't portraits of people. They are portraits of presence - mirrors beckoning us to connect with the boldest versions of ourselves saying, "Here I am. All of me. Will you show up, too?"

For me, living authentically isn't just an idea. It's an act of re-membering, a reclamation and integration of all our parts. And those who engage with my work aren't just buying art. They're stepping into themselves: their scars, their quirk, their softness, and power. My art is an offering of presence, a gentle protest to living small, and a reminder that the truest approach to life is unapologetically your own.
